#CARBOHYDRATE DEFICIENCY Deficiency of carbohydrates in the diet results in utilisation of fats for energy purpose. Carbohydrate deficiency caused by not taking a balanced diet.1.KETOSISProlonged carbohydrate fasting or starvation, acetyl coA in the liver is used to produce ketone bodies formed by the break down of fatty acids and by the deamination of aminoacids, leading to a state called ketosis.Symptoms:- • Loss of appetite • Headache• Loss of body weight • Fatigue• Dizziness• Bad breath (ketosis breath)2.ACIDOSISThe shift from glycolysis (breakdown of glucose) to lipolysis (breakdown of lipids)and ketogenesis for energy needs Acidity in blood & tissue rises and causes irreversible cell damage. Factors that can contribute the risk of acidosis:-• High fat diet that's low in CHO.• Obesity • Kidney failure • Dehydration • Methanol/Aspirin poisoning Symptoms:-• Headache • Fatigue• Sleepiness • Jaundice• Breath that smells fruity, which is a sign of diabetic acidosis.3.HYPOGLYCEMIAHypoglycemia is a condition in which the blood sugar ( glucose) level is lower than normal. The non availability of Glucose due to severe lack of CHO causes drop in the blood glucose level under 70 mg / ml withtypical symptoms like fatigue, destress and delirium.Symptoms:-• An irregular or fast heart beat• Pale skin • Anxiety • Sweating• Tingling or numbness of lips, tongue or cheek.4.CONSTIPATIONDietary fiber is an essential component of CHO food, which is known to prevent recto- colon cancer and help digestion. The absence of dietary fiber can cause constipation.Symptoms:-• Stomachache• dry, hard or lumpy• Feel bloated and nauseous5. MOOD SWINGDietary carbohydrate exclusion causes the brain to stop regulating serotonin hormone. Low serotonin supply causes mood swing & depression.CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM DISORDERS:1. Diabetes2.
